Another day, another delay on US 75

Mid-morning construction traffic left one US 75 commuter with a totaled truck Monday.

The owner of a Chevrolet S-10 reportedly flipped his truck while heading northbound on US 75 near the Parker Road exit around 11 a.m.

No one was injured in the accident, but the entire right lane of northbound traffic was closed for at least two hours in order to allow the truck to be cleared from the roadway.

The man, clearly shaken and upset by the accident, declined to comment while he retrieved his golf clubs from the highway.

The Plano Police Department has yet to release information related to the accident, but are still working to put together the chain of events that lead to Monday’s crash.

Regardless of the accident, drivers using north or southbound US 75 can expect to be delayed by TxDOT with two construction projects until next year.

TxDOT began work Sept. 1 on adding two HOV lanes (one northbound and one southbound) on US 75 from I-635 all the way to Exchange Parkway in Allen. The project is expected to take 11 months to complete, according to TxDOT.

“So far it is still scheduled to be completed in July of 2007,” said Angela Loston, assistant public information officer for TxDOT.

TxDOT does its best to keep motorists out of harms way when traveling through its construction projects, said Loston.

“We try to do what we can to avoid accidents, but unfortunately accidents do happen,” Loston said. “We want to try and make sure we do what we can so that people are able to move around as safely as possible.”

Transportation agencies with construction projects continue to be the norm in the Plano area. Even though different agencies are responsible for different roadway closings, no efforts have currently been made between agencies to coordinate and ease the amount of congestion in Plano, Loston said.

“As far as coordinating with other transportation agencies, it has happened before, but as far as making sure that everyone’s construction schedules do not conflict would be hard for me to answer,” Loston said.

The outside northbound lane of US 75 will be closed due to construction from Wednesday through Friday this week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from Spring Creek Parkway to Exchange Parkway.
